There are films based on true events which show the audience a exaggerated version of the story, and there are stories about real people that is portrayed with utmost earnestness and empathy – Chhapaak is the latter.
Actress Deepika Padukone is seen essaying the role of ‘Malti,’ based on the life of acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The Chhapaak trailer gives a glimpse into the struggles of a 15-year-old girl whose life changed in a single moment, and her ability to build strength to fight for her rights.
Speaking of the trailer, it opens with a visual of a crowd protesting for justice post the Nirbhaya case, set in 2012. We’re then introduced to Malti, who drops to the floor in a busy market, crying for help.
What follows is the story of a young girl learning to cope with the disaster, facing herself in the mirror, fighting, and falling in love with life again.
Padukone’s portrayal of Malti is engaging and her character’s progressions seems genuine.
Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film also stars Vikrant Massey playing the role of a social activist supporting Malti’s case.

It is a story that must be told and a story that needs to be heard. The trailer has some gut-wrenching visuals to evoke numbing rush of emotions.
