Artists are no longer limited to big-screen projects only.
Several mainstream actors are experimenting not only different mediums such as with the digital / OTT (over-the-top), but also exploring different styles of story-telling, i.e. short films.
Actors Kajol and Shruti Haasan are making their debut is this space by headlining a digital short film titled Devi. The ensemble cast also includes actors Neha Dhupia, Neena Kulkarni, Mukta Barve, Sandhya Mhatre, Rama Joshi, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashaswini Dayama.
The first look of Devi showcased the leading characters – all women from different walks of life and strata of society.
Written and directed by Priyanka Banerjee, Devi revolves around the lives of nine oppressed women who share the same dilemmas and issues of society.
Speaking of her first short film that ha been shot in just two days, Kajol said:
It’s a poignant film, one that needs to be shared with the world, especially today. My character, Jyoti, is vastly different from me in many ways, but uncannily we share a lot too. In today’s times when gender discrimination, abuse, and violence is being spoken about vociferously, films like Devi are far more relevant and I am glad to have got the opportunity to participate.”
Produced under the banner of Electric Apples Entertainment led by screenwriter-lyricist Niranjan Iyengar and Ryan Ivan Stephen, the film will stream in collaboration with Large Short Films.
The release date is yet to be announced.
